Computer hacking is one of the most lethal threats to your online security and surely the reason is obvious. Your identity is always at the risk of getting stolen and hackers are one of the most likely culprits to do that. The problem is that we know about hackers, what are they known for, how lethal they are, but, we are unaware of the fact that how do they perform their acts. This unawareness of us exposes us to many threats. We are actually not well educated regarding their techniques and how can we avoid being their victim.

These cyber criminals are genius with a negative mind, it makes them more dangerous.  These online criminals engineer such malicious programs that infect their PCs or laptops and give a safe route to their computer. They can easily access your most personal of the information without any difficulty if you have left your data abandoned without any reliable password protection. To get this password protection effective, you need to use Folder Lock Lite that lock and hides your confidential data of all formats and lets you stay protected. Otherwise, orthodox style of password protection will easily be broken by a hacker as they are too skillful for that.

Another thing that you need to be careful about is that you all your security software updated. Keeping security programs that are not updated will surely not be helpful in fighting against the latest viruses and other malwares. Security barriers like firewalls, antivirus programs and other similar software need to updated on a regular interval, otherwise, hackers smartness will prove to be dangerous for you. So, in order to make sure that your identity remains secure and safe, you need to use such programs that keep hackers away from your database. Be wise and educated regarding data security and take proper measures to protect your identity.

Many organizations are well aware of the external threat imposed on their database, hence, they implement some serious security barriers that cannot be jumped over by the crooks. But, in pursue of security from external threats, they overlook the equally hazardous peril that the internal employees impose on their information security. The in-house information security of the companies is usually not as strong as compared to the security from external threats. So, what you have to do keep the in-house security intact? Here are three guidelines that would help you to secure your official information.

Have a pleasant relationship with everyone in the office
It is not necessary that you will only be responsible for the official information if you are an entrepreneur. Being an employee in an office, it is your core responsibility to make sure that the information that you use to perform your designated tasks do not get compromised. It is implied that if a piece of information that you are using gets leaked, you will be responsible for that and face consequences. Knowing the fact, your rival colleagues can perform any such act that will drive you into trouble. Similarly, being an entrepreneur, you need to have a pleasant relationship with your employees, otherwise a worker can steal your data and can sell it to competitors or can hand it over to people that will exploit it.
Knowledge about the severity of threat
In order to solve the problem, you need to first know the problem well. You should be aware of the severity of the problem. Be aware of the things that can lead you towards data breach. The practices that will expose you to the risk of leaking information. For example, you need to make sure that you set a complex password to unlock your computer, so your colleague cannot access it. Do not tell your password to any of your colleagues. Other than that, make sure that you use data security software to Lock Files so that if anyone access to your database, he or she will not be able to extract out information.
Be careful with portable data storing drives
There is a fair chance that you use portable data storing drives to store your information. Portable drives are always exposed to a risk of getting stolen that can be absolutely disastrous. There is a possibility that any of colleagues might eye for your portable drive to get the information he or she is looking for. Keeping the scenario in mind, be very careful while using portable drives. Do not leave it abandoned at your working station as anyone can walk away with it. Moreover, use some security software that can secure your data stuffed portable drive.

Your information is on the verge of getting leaked almost every single moment. You have to very alert and aware of the steps that you have to take to protect information and the actions that you have to take if an incident of data breach occurs. There is no exception to that risk, anytime anybody can become a victim of it. So, do not overlook the fact.

If you go back to the 14th century, you would immediately notice things are primitive – perhaps everything would appear somewhat of a joke. In the medieval there is no need for electricity; there are no light bulbs; heck they didn’t even have guns back then. Everything was based on superstition, and believing in magic was the norm. Relatively, if you had a time machine and you just happen to go back in time to the 14th century – and then all of a sudden your time machine breaks down severely – you would lose your mind. Even if you took your Smartphone, tablet and laptop with you – they would become redundant in the middle ages, given the fact that they didn’t have electricity back then, plus you would be burnt alive for black magic, because folks from the middle ages would view your gadgets as tools of sorcery.
However, on a different note, life back then was relatively straight forward and people had more time to relax – despite the extremely low standards of living in comparison to today. If you are one of the younger generations born in and around the 90’s or later, some of you certainly would go crazy without technology. Nonetheless, most will adapt to the appropriate life style and come to terms by accepting your fate.
The point is that humans can adapt to any environment if they are put in a situation. If you really look at it, we don’t need technology, heck we don’t even need to farm animal or crops, we humans are smart enough to simply live of the land. If you really look at it, we have purposely complicated our lives for no reason. People can be just as happy without technology as with it, so why bother with technology. The point is that technology such as the internet, smart phones and the like were meant to control people so that the government and corporation could keep track of peoples habits and whereabouts. In fact, recent news of the NSA spying on citizens has been breaking the headlines fairly regularly. Our freedom is being stolen from right under our noses and we don’t even know it.
However, if you are not a criminal, you don’t have to fear the NSA. Though, everyone – regardless of your criminal background or lack thereof – should be worried about cyber criminals. Public places that offer free WIFI are a hotspot for cyber criminals, open WIFI connections usually mean unsecured connections, creating a golden opportunity for cyber criminals to steal your data using sophisticated hacking software.
Although, few of us could give up the temptation of using free WIFI, for the rest of us, it’s not possible go without free internet – whenever there is a chance – regardless of the risks it may carry. Nonetheless, users can still protect themselves from becoming a victim of the “Free WIFI trap” by utilizing the latest in data security software – which are designed to encrypt folders containing sensitive documents – in essence acting as virtual Folder Locking software.

Men have needs which are not easy to satisfy, need I say more. Males naturally cannot spend too much time with one female, as men are generally polygamous. This may be tougher for women to understand but men have a natural tendency to seek more than one woman. Why, well because, men are programmed to spread their genetic material as much as they can, this ensure that the survivability ration of their genetic legacy. On the other hand, women are programmed to bare children and look after the well being of the children and ensure that they are well taken care of. Thus, women have a natural tendency to care and love. Even in the wild, you see male bucks and even our closest relatives the gorilla has a harem of females who he protects and mates with. Consequently, if you go back 2,000 years from now, you’ll see that the rich and powerful had several wives and mistresses – it was the norm and women generally appreciated it. Today, the way our society works has changed, women are regarded as equal to men, and vice versa. Yet, men have been unchanged biologically, and still need to satisfy their need for one woman – but now with new challenges.
Therefore, those who have been with one woman for far too long truly understand how it feels to be stuck with just one woman. Over the years, men have invented several different tactics on developing a technique for “how not to get caught cheating”. Sadly, the truth does prevail in the end, and men often get caught. Relationships end, marriages are broken resulting in divorces, and there is drama everywhere. Perhaps, the biggest mistake a man can make is leave his content, such as emails, photos, videos, text messages etc… leave in an unprotected state. Women in general are curious and are naturally jealous and vigilant, they want to find out what you’re hiding, and will go to great lengths to find out your other activities.  Consequently, you can take the following steps to ensure that you don’t get caught cheating:
Delete cookies and browsing history:
Whether you were on an online dating website or were engaged in an online chat with your mistress, make sure to delete all cookies and web history, so your partner or significant other doesn’t find out.
Use data security software:
It’s likely that you have photos and videos of your mistress saved on your PC. It is essential that you Password Protect Folder or folders containing such content, so that she’s never able to discover your hidden content.
Simple Lies:
If your partner begins to argue with you, you need to minimize her suspicion, to do so, tell her simple lies that she can believe, and then make sure you don’t leave any evidence behind that can foil your affair.
Avoid Excessive Lies:
Only lie about thing that are absolutely necessary, do not lie about everything, this can raise her suspicion even more.

The small and medium sized business are the ones that are most likely to be it by a data breach incident. The reason of that is very simple, whenever you ask the small and medium sized business to secure their information, they furled their eyebrows and say “Why would anyone steal our information? We are not the FBI, CIA or NSA that someone would be interested to get our information.” The fact is that irrespective of the size and nature of the business its information is at the risk of getting stolen by crooks.

The risk to information security is now being increased as almost every business is connected to a network in some manner. A business having poor measures to secure their information can make all the other systems of the businesses connected to the network vulnerable to data breach. These kind of breaches can be extremely expensive as per the researches conducted in the past several. Data breach incident harms the business in all aspects, from customer care to finance to production. Since, Ponemon Institute is working on the cost of information breach for more than a decade, they have clearly observed an increasing trend in it.

The cost of data breach is based on the number of records compromised and the sensitivity of those records.  But, no matter how small data breach incident has struck you, you will surely suffer quite a bit. In order to keep your business records safe and secure, you have to follow these simple advices from the experts.

Maintain proper record
It is impossible to manage anything that you are unable to measure. That is the reason that you need to have a proper record of the flow of information, which records are the sensitive ones and the position of the data. This maintenance of records do not only help securing your information, but, it is a healthy practice for the growth of your business.
Keep only important data
In order to maintain data security, you need to keep as less information as possible. You are just advised to keep those records that are necessary to carry on your business operations. Redundancy of information would be incredibly hard to manage as well as secure. Keep that information saved in your database that is extremely important for your business and make sure that it is diligently secured with software that can Password Protect Folders.
Don’t keep all information in a single place
In order to enhance and strengthen the information security of your business or company, you need to maintain more than one database. Storing all your data in a single place would impose a huge risk on it.  If a hacker gets his way through to your database, all your information will be within his reach and he can easily extract out the desired records. Whereas, on the other hand, if you have data stored in more than one place, there will be bright chances that a hacker will not be able to have access to all your records. That is why experts advise not to put all your eggs in a single bag.

The IT department must track the flow of information, but, employees have to play their part as well.
Effective data security program
Data security is a must have in this world of hodge podge. Every business needs to take effective data security measures, otherwise, it will suffer big time. In this situation of uncertainty, a business should a program that can Password Protect Folders. In this way, the information of business will not be leaked so easily and business will be able to avoid a number of expansive losses.
Strong passwords
Setting up strong passwords is once again a key feature of tight security. Having a password that is a complex mixture of uppercase and lowercase alphabets, numbers and symbols. A reliable password consists of at least 8 characters. Try to change all the passwords within the span of one month to three months as it is a healthy practice for data protection.

Love is a beautiful thing, and it can motivate people to do some amazing things in life. Not everyone falls in love, nor would most people ever experience what love is like. Love can be a one way street, or a two-way street. In the case when love becomes a two way street, it can lead to marriage or a common law relationship. In the movies and in stories, marriage is often idealized to be a beautiful thing – something magical, sort of speaks – and it usually is for the first couple of years. Couples go on honeymoons, and spend overtly more time romancing than anything else. After a few years, marriage can become burdensome – and one begins to wonder: what the hell they were thinking when they decided to get married.  Marriage is all about give and take, but this intricate balance of give and take is not always balanced – in fact it’s rarely balanced at all.

In reality, when a man decides to get married, his decision is usually a logical one at that point in time. Then, after a few years, or even after a few months, something changes, you notice your wife begins to nag more often, she comes up with new ways to start an argument, and then, after some time, you begin to question your own judgment – as to why you got married with her in the first place. If you are married, then you know exactly how that feels and if you are about to get married, you should expect the worst and hope for the best.  The point is that marriage may be the biggest challenge a man faces in his lifetime. Although, there is always an option of divorce – it’s not always feasible to get divorced – given in a situation where children might be involved. Thus, men often resort to engaging in extramarital affairs and or try to avoid interaction with the significant other.

Out of all the annoying habits wives display, perhaps the most exasperating activity – one may hate in their wife – is her innate curiosity to snoop on husband’s private data. Data such as bank statements, photos, videos and credit card details, documents and other personal information are highly sought after by wives – and it’s only natural that wives seek to obtain such information – after all the paranoia that their husband may be cheating on can have a major impact in their cognitive processes.

Consequently, it is up to the husband to make sure that his wife never discovers his deep-dark-secrets.  Thus, men begin to use a variety of techniques, trying to hide their personal data. Such as trying to change the file extension, changing the file name or simply hiding the actual file using windows file hiding features. However, women are not stupid, and just like the ingenuity of men, they too can quickly figure out what their husbands have been hiding. Consequently, the only way a man can truly hide his data, is by using data security software which can as a virtually Lock Folder or folders from your wife.

As the tech world is progressing, the secrets of a successful business are being changed. Cloud computing offers huge advantages to your business and helps you to set up a digital office through which you can work anywhere and anytime. Information was made portable with the invention of portable devices such as CDs, DVDs and above all USB flash drives. But, cloud computing is likely to outclass them all as you can access your information that is saved on a cloud server through any computing device.

The introduction of the cloud computing has helped organizations around the world to cut off their expenditures spent on IT systems. Instead of setting up your own IT system that is likely to be quite expansive and you have to hire some experts to operate that, you can rather opt for a cloud computing service provider. You can save your energy cost that is to be consumed by hi-tech IT systems, wages that you will pay for IT experts and precious time. Although, cloud server providers take responsibility to protect your information, but, still, there is a sense of insecurity. But, if you Lock Files and then upload them on the cloud server, then your information will surely not be breached.

The cloud computing also lets you to work better as a team with workers working from different parts of the world. You upload the files that are needed to complete the task on the cloud server and give access to those workers. Every person maintains the changes in the files and all the workers are aware of the progress of the work. This helps companies to hire heterogeneous staff belonging from different parts of the world, having different cultures and ethnicity. This helps a company grow better. The kind of benefits cloud computing is offering to the business world, this surely is the future of effective computing.

The majority of the computer users is aware of perils that they have to face regarding data security. But, still, they seem to be ignorant of the fact. They think that they are among the exceptions and hackers will not target him/her. Along with that, they feel hesitation in spending information security tools and run away from the complexities in protecting records. The fact is that, the is no complexity in protecting information and very little investment is required. If you Lock Files, neither you will have to work hard for it, nor you will have to spend much money for it. You will be having a number of advantages if you secure your information, three of them are given below.

Protection of Valuable Asset
Your information is one of the most precious asset that you have. No matter what kind of information you are handling, you need to keep it protected with due diligence. A small incident of data breach can cause you a lot of harm, probably more than you ever anticipated.
Original Ideas
In today’s world, the secret of being successful is being original. If you have creative and original ideas, you are likely to succeed in your field. But, what if your competitors able to extract out your ideas and use them for their good. Surely, it is a terrifying thought. Information technology is the best thing that happened to us since the discovery of the wheel. The wheel enabled man to revolutionize the transportation system. Before the wheel, ancient humans had to use several animals to transport goods from point A to point B. Then, someone in the fourth millennium invented the wheel – though there’s an ongoing debate as to who invented – whoever did invent the wheel, changed our world for the better. However, fixing a wheel or inventing it is a straightforward process; anyone could have invented the wheel. On the other hand, Information security is a whole new arena; only experts in that line know how to best resolve information security issues. Information security came about through Information technology, the internet has opened up the virtual doors of information and entertainment. It has become an integral part of our lives; entire businesses have based themselves primarily through information technology – in essence creating new economic dynamics.
Thus, wherever you look, the internet has become an integral part of everyday workflow processes. From logistics, marketing, human resources and finance, all line of works require the internet in order to function competitively and normally. Sadly, this widespread demand for the internet has also given rise to information security threats. Hackers and e-terrorists have taken advantage of the internet’s resiliency to share and exchange information through borders. Consequently, combined with lack of international enforcement for e-crime and differentiating laws between borders, these criminals have launched a new war against corporations and governments. On the Micro level, some have realized that targeting unsuspecting individuals can also be fruitful, as majority of folks do not encrypt their personal information through software which can act as a virtual Folder Lock.
On the other hand, most large organizations – those who realize the threat or have suffered a hacking incident – know the real importance of having an information security expert working full-time for their organization. In fact, this realization has been so strong that it has created a new position for data security analysts and related fields. Consequently, a recent surge in hack attacks on large organizations has increased the demand for such professionals, creating a shortage of these talented professionals. Organizations are now worried, citing concerns about their preparedness to withstand a hacking incident.

The tech world is nothing if new innovations and hype stops surrounding it. Every new activity in the tech world is superior, more polished, and seems to be more effective than the last piece of movement that’s taken place in the tech world. The giants that control this world has made a perception that if you do not follow the newest trends of this glittering world, you will be left out. As new innovations and prosperity in any other field of life has some pros and cons, the same case is with the tech world. The critiques of the tech world are usually found to keep only the benefits of the new invention in the spotlight and cover the negatives of such invention from the people.
The dark sides of these technological developments need to be disclosed to make sure the people’s security. So what are the hazards of the tech world that are undiscovered? Following are some of the hidden dangers of technological development.

The hidden peril of Tablets as PC replacements
As the world is progressing, things are becoming more and more portable with every new invention. There was a time when people used to work on heavy duty and ugly looking computers, but at time elapsed laptop substituted those big heavy duty computers. Now, a few years back these laptops were also replaced by tablets. Tablets are touch screen devices having no keyboard or any cables to be connected, having all the capabilities of an ordinary computer. But, the fact is that the tablet is not the perfect alternate for a computer/laptop. Error free fast typing skills definitely need a physical keyboard not a digital one. That is perhaps the only reason that laptops have not yet perfectly sidelined by the tablet PCs. These tablet PCs are not also the safest of all, due to its small size they are easy to steal, imagine how much a lost PC can harm you, same is the case with tablet PCs.
The undisclosed risks of the Big DataBig data have been a new sensation in the tech world, there is an opinion that big data has even more than data then the internet. Big data track the activities of users and help them find their desired results accordingly. However, this big data is also being used by companies to promote their data to the desired people by tracking cyber movements. The negative side of the big data is that it exposes all the personal activities and gives a relatively easy way to hackers to perform their harmful actions.
The unnoticed threat of Social MediaSocial media has changed the concept of a true friend; it has faded the meaning of ‘friend in need is the friend indeed’. Unfortunately, people have started to measure their friends circle by the number of friends on social media. The bitter truth is that, these friends are usually unknown people and may hurt you financially by hacking or even physically. Such a case was reported in the US recently when a 15 year old girl was kidnapped and murdered by a person who met her or Facebook. Social media is not really the safest place to hang out with friends. Other than that social media is involved in exposing your confidential information to the cyber criminals. These e-crooks can easily access to your information and exploit it for their own good. The continuous development in the tech world has made the world a global village, but, this village is exposed to a number of threats. Internet users are always on target to be harmed; these threats are just one click away to hunt your privacy and security. To survive this modern world which is full of perils you need to keep yourself safe from these risks. The easiest way to secure oneself is to use data security software like Folder Lock that allows the fastest encryption of your files and offers all the necessary weapons to tackle these dangers.

If you are a business person, you might have some sensitive information saved in your computer. Your computer may have financial information, clients’ information, business strategies or any similar records. All these sorts of data are sensitive and can harm fiercely if it gets leaked. Losing financial information such as account numbers, capital information or credit card numbers, if your financial records get compromised, you can easily be a fraud victim or can face some other perils as well. Similarly, the loss of clients’ credentials can result in a decline in your goodwill in the business world. So, be sure that your records are secured from getting leaked, for the purpose, you need to opt for some measures that are nor complicated neither expansive, but, you just ignore them.

Establish Policies Regarding the Use of Data
If you are not willing to hand over your business’ information to your employees, notify them clearly. Make policies that no worker would carry any computing device out of the office, the portable drives that belong to the business will remain within the office premises, no personal devices will be used to perform official tasks. But, be sure that what policies you establish, you implement them too diligently.
Enforce Strong Password Policy
Usually, employees seem to be quite careless while setting up passwords for their official accounts. They use generic passwords like 12345, qwerty or similar passwords. Being an employer, you have to make sure that employees chose passwords diligently that are complex and harm to guess. Simple passwords are like locking a door and leaving the key inserted.
Use Antivirus Software and Keep it up to date
Antivirus plays an extremely important role in keeping your information safe. There is malware that infects your computer and gives online crooks a safe passage to get to your database. Keeping an antivirus software will not allow malware to strike your computer. Keep it up to date so that the latest infectious programs that hackers engineer can be neutralized by your anti-malware software.
Use of Firewall
The firewall can tackle some of the unprofessional cyber criminals that try to get into your database. However, it is not much effective solely, but, if used with antivirus software, it can really protect your information.
Keep Control Over Emails
Keep tracking the emails that are sent from your office and that are being received. Forbid your employees from downloading vague files attachment in the emails as they can contain malware. Fore your employees not to send any personal emails from the office network as employees can easily send out delicate records via emails.
Use of Security Software
When your critical data is on the verge of getting breach every moment. It is your responsibility to be sure that you use such security software that can Lock Files and does not allow crooks to get into your database. Otherwise, you can be a victim of hazardous information theft victim.
These were some of the measures that will definitely help making your information secure and will protect you from expansive losses. No matter what sort of critical records you have, if you take these steps, they will surely be going to help you in keeping your data secured.

The World Wide Web has certainly made everyday living a convenience for most of us. Though, just like all great things, one must be responsible in how they utilize this invaluable tool.  Several websites require mandatory registration, forcing users to disclose their personal information –individual data that could be good as gold. Thus, how one can safeguard this so called “gold” all depends on his or her knowledge of the internet. On the other hand, not everyone knows how to safely utilize the internet; therefore the following information contains a list of most common data security mistakes people make.
You instinctively enter your real information, even though it is not necessary:
You really don’t have to enter your real name, birthday or your address unless you feel it’s absolutely necessary.  If you can get away with entering false information – given that it’s not against the law –then you should avoid entering your real information.
You hate changing your passwords:
It is likely that you have several online accounts; so many that you probably lost count by now. Consequently, you have several different set of credentials to remember – the fact that we are able to memorize them is astonishing. In good practice, you should always change your passwords frequently, regardless of how tedious you may find the procedure.
Your password and username are all the same:
There is a slight risk in using the same password and username for all of your accounts. Consequently, hackers already know this, and once a single account has been hacked, it becomes easier for a hacker to crack the rest of your accounts. Therefore, avoid using the same set of credentials for all online accounts.
You overlook virus alerts:
When you receive a virus alert, do you simply ignore it? Well, you shouldn’t. Viruses such as the infamous “heart bleed” virus have the capability to hack your entire back account, not leaving even a single penny behind. Therefore, consistently update your antivirus software, which can prevent such viruses from collecting your personal details such as bank account login credentials. In addition, sensitive data saved on your PC should be encrypted with software designed to Lock Folder(s).
You don’t bother to look at details on your credit-card statements:
If you don’t account for every single charge on your credit-card, then you should start doing it right now. Sometimes, a small unauthorized charge on your credit-card can indicate that your personal information has been comprised.
You don’t look up your credit score:
Looking up your credit score can sometimes reveal minute abnormalities; a sudden drop in your credit-score could be a sign of identity theft. If you feel that your credit-score is not as low as it should be, then this is something that you should be concerned about.

The information security usually based on what kind of data you have to secure. The usability of the data and the mode transition also has to be taken into consideration while planning the security measures for information.  If you talk to some security experts, some of them might advise you to set up firewalls; some will suggest you to opt for antivirus software or some other sophisticated programs. This all depends on the kind of data you have. However, there are some common measures that all entrepreneurs can go for and they are quite effective as well.

Setting up Strong Passwords

The basic principle of maintaining security is to set up strong passwords. The majority of people tend to ignore the importance of setting complex passwords. More than 50 percent of the computer users set passwords like ‘12345” or “qwerty” or similar simple passwords. Keeping your date of birth or important dates as passwords is like inviting trouble. A complex password is the one that has 8 to 12 characters containing lowercase and uppercase letters, numbers and symbols. It is advised that not to use letters that are located close to each other on the keyboard. The password is the Frontline defense.

Use Antivirus Software

Using antivirus software is absolutely necessary to keep your data security intact. It blocks the malware programs that actually give online criminals a passage to steal your information. But, just keeping the anti-malware will not help your cause. You have to keep updating it regularly so that it can fight the latest infectious programs that can infect your computer. If you do not update it on a regular basis, it will not be able to tackle the new threats hackers would win the battle.

Use Security Software

If somehow hackers succeed to get access to your computer, would there be any hurdle to stop them? There cannot be any hurdle unless you put one. Use security software such as Folder Lock. The Software encrypts your data and maintain an automatic backup that does not allow to lose your information. The security of software is so tight that it gets impossible for the data thieves to break through it and get access to your information.

Be Very Careful Regarding Emails

Usually people tend to overlook the threat that is enclosed in the email messages. The attached links or files are clicked or downloaded by users without giving a thought that it might risk their security. Similarly, be very careful while sending emails. Confirm the email address on which you are sending an e-message. There are thousands of cases reported where people sent sensitive information to strangers because of entering wrong email addresses. Try to send encrypted emails, so that they cannot be extracted out while they are on the way to the recipient or if sent to a wrong email address, he/she cannot open it.

Keeping your information secure is your basic responsibility. You just cannot blame the thieves if they steal your information that was not secured by you. Knowing the sensitivity of your information and opting for the security accordingly will help securing your data better.

When was the last time you left home without your smart phone? If you have – at some point in time – chances are, you’ve become distressed and felt as you left behind a vital part of your life – something that’s usually essential for our survival. It’s funny how technology – especially information technology – is changing how we function in everyday life.  Consequently, with information technology reaching new heights by every passing year, we are becoming more advanced as a society. Most people think that technology is all good, and no harm has come from it – at least none that they can actually see.  In fact, folks who believe that their privacy is not being violated are either extremely naïve or may be retarded.  In reality, privacy is dead – whether you like it or not – it’s true. If you are a facebook user, than facebook already knows everything about you. Where you live, who you are married to, where you work, who are your friends and relatives and what you like. Thus, whether you like it or not, it is likely that facebook knows more about you than your own mother, but life goes on, the world keeps spinning and you don’t have the power to change what has been done.
Who steals your personal data?
Criminals:
You may be thinking: what can criminals do with my personal data? Well, they can do some serious damage to your credit report. How? Simple, all they need is your full name, address, social security number and driver’s license number, which is really not that hard to gather. So, how do they gather such information? Easy, all the criminal has to do is either hack into your personal computer, or alternatively, use an old fashioned technique appropriately named dumpster diving. In dumpster diving, criminals ravage through your garbage bins, sifting through piles of rubble to look for credit card statements or better yet, your tax return documents – it’s a dirty job for the criminal – but the payoff is well worth the effort.  Next, once the criminal is able to gather all the pieces to the puzzle – in this case all your personal information – he or she can apply for bank loans, credit cards and even conduct other crimes using your identity – if that doesn’t get your blood boiling, then you might as well be the next dalai lama.
Large corporations:
Large corporation love you, not your money – this is why they want to get to know you better – this statement may be true in a another worldly dimension, but in the real world, it is the other way around. So, let’s rephrase this statement: large corporation love your money, not you!  Thus, by collecting your personal data, they are better able to entice you on the products you love – forcing you inner motivations to spend on things you truly love – resulting in you spending on potentially useless things that you really don’t need and items or services which you may not have any real use for.
How can you stay safe from e-crime?
1.       Utilize software which can Password Protect Folder or folders containing sensitive information.
2.       Shred all documents before tossing them in the garbage bin – use a cross shredder to ensure better security.
3.       Use VPN to surf the internet, this will encrypt your online activities, preventing corporations from tracking your online activities.
4.        Be careful about what information to share on facebook and other social media websites. The less information you’ll share, the safer you you’ll be.

The year of 2013 was the most nightmarish year in the history of computing. The lack of password protected folders allowed a huge number of data breach incidents. The statistics of 2013 regarding information security are really scary. It seemed like data thefts had complete freedom and were allowed to steal any amount of data from any source they wish. A huge number of data breach incidents took place in the previous year that compromised millions of records. Here are some of the concrete statistics.

Healthcare Sector
The healthcare sector has smashed all the previous records and has topped the ranking of industries that leaked the data. It is the first time since 2005 that the business sector has been less affected by data breach incidents as healthcare sector had the worst year with respect to data security. As you see the statistics of the healthcare sector regarding data breach, you might get astonished.
·         Healthcare sector was responsible for about 43.8 percent of the total data breach incidents in the last year.
·         There has been an increase of about 3 to 4 percent of data breach incidents related to the healthcare sector as compared to the preceding year.
·         The healthcare sector is also responsible for the most expansive data breaches i.e. $233.
Well, the fact did not really bothered the IT experts that healthcare sector reported the most number of information leakages. The reason for that is obvious as healthcare sector is bound to report all the data breach incidents suffered by the industry.
Hackers topped the charts again
When an ordinary computer user thinks about information leakage, the first thought that pops up in mind is usually hacker. Well, the thought, rightly so pops into the minds of ordinary computer users as these statistics suggest:
·         Hackers are to be blamed for nearly 25 percent of the records compromised.
·         Hackers have stolen nearly 50,000 records containing names, email address and other similar information from Living Social.
·         Other than that, the breaches done by hackers cost $160 per record.
Hackers are evil, but, the fault is of the users. They have to keep their data completely secured. Otherwise, they will have to pay a big price as many of the users played in 2013 because of neglecting the importance password protection. Its users’ basic responsibility to make sure that their information is protected.
Other Statistics
The business sector is widely affected by the incidents of information breach as 37 percent of all the incidents were contributed by it. The United States of America contributed about 50 percent of all data breach incidents that are way higher than the second on the list UK with 8 percent and India with 3 percent. Whereas, Australia has the most numbers of records compromised that is 34,000. USA stands on the second number with 29,000 records leaked.

The previous year of 2013 has been a complete disaster with respect to data security. The problem is certainly on the rise and seems to get worse as the time passes by. It is necessary for the user to take good care of their information and Password Protect Folder that will keep their data and their identity protected.

Recently, the University of Iowa State became a victim of a brutal incident of data breach. The incident resulted in about the leakage of 30,000 records of current students as well as of the former students. Almost 28,000 students got their social security number compromised and about 19,000 of the students got their student identity breached. All the victims have been informed by the university officials of the hazardous incident that the University of Iowa State recently have met with. The IT department of the university told that five servers of different departments have been attacked and spilt out students’ information.

Encryption Software
The officials of the State of Iowa believe that the intention of the attacks was not to steal students’ information, but, they want to infect more and more computers possible. Although, there no signs that the data have been accessed, but still, the students that have been hit by this data breach were informed via mail. Further, they have been offered free credit monitoring of the exposed social security numbers. The data that has been compromised contained the records of students that have been a part of university in the span of 1995 to 2012.

The Iowa State officials have taken a quick action on this incident. The Senior Vice President said that the state has never taken the issue of data security lightly. He apologized to the victim and said that unfortunately, the servers of the university are not immune from hack attacks. However, if they had used reliable Encryption Software to protect their records, they would not have been regretting the incident. The compromised social security numbers and university IDs can be used to perform a number of fraudulent activities. The University of Iowa State and the students whom information has been compromised have to careful in the future and have to keep a keen eye on different activities going around them.
